*Civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton has called for an immediate investigation into the death of Ahmaud Arbery, the 25-year-old Georgia man who was gunned down earlier this year by two suspected white supremacists near his hometown in Brunswick, Ga.

We previously reported… Arbery was unarmed when he was fatally shot in the Satilla Shores neighborhood in Brunswick, Georgia, on February 23.

According to Glynn County Police, Travis McMichael, 34, and his father, Gregory, 64, a retired district attorney investigator, had seen Arbery running in the area and decided to arm themselves, chase him down in a pickup truck and kill him.

Now, Ahmaud’s family is worried the case isn’t getting the mainstream media attention it deserves due to the ongoing COVID-19 hype.

According to The Brunswick News, Travis and Gregory followed Ahmaud in their truck and demanded that he stop and talk to them, believing him to be a burglary suspect.

At some point, they got out of their truck, confronted the man and after a struggle over the shotgun with Travis, Arbery was shot at least twice and killed.

As reported by bet.com, Sharpton, founder and President of National Action Network (NAN), said that the organization “will apply pressure until this case is fully investigated and those responsible are held to account for their acts.”

“We demand an impartial investigation over racial profiling as one of the perpetrators should not be granted immunity because he is a former law enforcement officer,” he added.

No one has been charged or arrested in connection with the killing because Brunswick prosecutor George E. Barnhill said Gregory and Travis acted within the state’s citizen’s arrest law and Travis acted out of self-defense.

Barnhill also claims there is video of Arbery “burglarizing a home immediately preceding the chase and confrontation,” according to The Times.

Activists say even if Arbery was up to no good, that did not give the father and son the right to hunt him down and kill him.

Barnhill has recused himself from the case.

Family attorney S. Lee Merritt said Liberty County District Attorney Tom Durden, who now has the case, has yet to meet with the victim’s family since taking over the file on April 22. He also noted conflicts similar to the previous prosecutors.

“As such, we are demanding that Mr. Durden turn this file over to an independent special prosecutor,” said Merritt.
