Hundreds Attend House Party in Chicago Amid COVID-19 Lockdown [VIDEO]

*Hundreds of people defied shelter-at-home guidelines by gathering for a house party in Chicago over the weekend.

Footage from the event has gone viral, showing folks jammed into a house on the westside, TMZ reports.

The video, which has 2.2 million views, was posted on April 25 by Facebook user Tink Purcell.  One of the partygoers told MTO News, “I’m not worried about [the coronavirus] . . . but if I didn’t have it before, I probably got it now. Oh well.”

Purcell posted Sunday on her Facebook timeline, “I had my mask and sanitizer I was good.” She also denied reports that 1,000 people attended, adding, “Ya’ll trippin’.”

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot reacted to the footage on Twitter, “I have seen the video which shows what appears to be a house party taking place inside a Chicago residence. What was depicted on the video was reckless and utterly unacceptable.”

She also linked to a site and asked the public to use it to send in anonymous tips about future house parties.

“CPD will shut them down immediately,” she wrote. “The fewer people who comply with the ‘Stay At Home’ Order, the sicker our residents will get and the harder it will be for us to recover.”

She also warned folks who continue to defy the state’s quarantine orders: “We will hold those responsible accountable.”

Meanwhile, scores of Los Angelenos also attempted to curb the quarantine boredom by hitting the city streets (and beaches) on Saturday, and just like the party goers in Chicago, the majority were not wearing masks or practicing social distancing (see photos below).

Here’s what one writer from laist.com, had to say about that:

Public health experts, doctors, mayors, governors — all say the best way to beat this virus is to avoid contact with other people. And the best way to do that is to stay home.

Neighborhood walks? Sure. Runs? That’s ok, too. But please, stop posting your poppy selfies on Instagram. And beach goers, we see you too.

It’s like, we’ve been in line for 43 days, do you really want to get out of line and start over? DO YOU? Because when you get out of the line, we all have to get out of line.

Plus, let’s be real. If we all crowd the beaches, then we’re no better than Florida. And I for one, think we are better than Florida.
