*Kirk Franklin brought out Kelly Price, Fantasia, Jonathan McReynolds, Tyrese, Le’Andria Johnson, and Melvin Crispell III to kick off the “Saving Our Selves: BET COVID-19 Relief Effort” special.
The group delivered a rousing version of Franklin’s hit “I Smile” during Wednesday’s broadcast, which assembled a slew of black entertainers and was hosted by Anthony Anderson, Kelly Rowland, Terrence J and Regina Hall.
Artists such as Alicia Keys — who paid special tribute to NYC — John Legend, Usher, Jermaine Dupri, Ella Mai, Jhene Aiko, Chloe X Halle, H.E.R., Ludacris, Swae Lee, and more came through to raise awareness of COVID-19’s disproportionate effect on black and brown people. BET is partnering with the United Way to create a relief fund that will take financial donations and spread them around to local charities in need across the United States.
