Atlanta Teen Fatally Shot by Stepfather for Defying Shelter-in-Place Guidelines [VIDEO]

Bernie Hargrove shoots stepdson

*A 42-year-old Atlanta man is behind bars and charged with felony murder after shooting his stepson multiple times for not obeying the statewide shelter-in-place guidelines.

Bernie Hargrove was booked into the Fulton County jail after fatally shooting De’onte Roberts inside their home, according to reports.

The victim’s mother told police that the shooting occurred during an altercation between the two after Roberts refused to follow his stepdad’s request for him to stay at home.

After the teen dismissed his parents’ concern over the contagion, Roberts left the house, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

“Later, the victim returned to the home and kicked in the door to the house where a physical fight began between the suspect and the victim,” police spokesman Steve Avery said.

Hargrove then shot the kid multiple times.

Roberts was treated for his injuries at Grady Memorial Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

“There had been a dispute earlier in the day when the 16-year-old refused his parents’ orders to remain in the home and comply with recent shelter in place directives,” a police statement said.

“Tensions get high because you’re in the same space, day in and day out,” Atlanta Police Captain D’’Andrea Price said. “However, when the pressure gets high, you just have to take a deep breath and you have to separate.”
