Killer Mike To Keep His Barbershops Closed When Georgia Reopens On Friday [VIDEO]

*Killer Mike says Georgia ain’t ready to reopen on Friday amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and that Gov. Brian Kemp is potentially putting many (Black) lives at risk.

The rapper joined TMZ Live on Tuesday and shared his concerns about Kemp’s plan to lift some of the state’s lockdown restrictions Friday, allowing barbershops, salons, gyms and several other businesses to reopen.

Killer Mike says he and his wife, Shay, will not open the string of barbershops that they own in Atlanta, called The Swag Shop, as they do not want to put Black folks, who are allegedly being impacted by COVID-19 at a very high rate, in danger by opening too soon.

“As business owners, we were concerned and we are concerned,” he said. “Our first concern is the safety of our employees and our customers,” he explained. “We aren’t comfortable opening.”

Mike is also a landlord and explained that he has adjusted rent for his tenants amid this pandemic.

Even infectious-disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci agrees that lifting restrictions too soon could backfire.

He said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” that “unless we get the virus under control, the real recovery economically is not gonna happen. So what you do if you jump the gun and go into a situation where you have a big spike, you’re gonna set yourself back.”

Meanwhile, Gov. Kemp has defended his plan to reopen some businesses in his state.

“We are taking a measured step,” Kemp told “The Story” Tuesday. “I would urge people to really look at the guidance that we are going to be putting out the rest of the week.”

He announced Monday that certain businesses can reopen Friday, with restaurants allowed to resume dine-in service April 27.
