Bill Maher: Comedian Defends Calling COVID-19 the ‘Chinese Virus’

*Bill Maher is catching heat for referring to the coronavirus as the “Chinese virus,” claiming “people who would rather die from the virus than call it by the wrong name.”

During his HBO show “Real Time” on Friday, the comedian noted the hypocrisy to avoid referring to the deadly disease after its location of origin, TooFab reports.

“Zika is from the Zika forest. Ebola from the Ebola river. Hantavirus from the Hantan river,” he began. “There is the West Nile virus and Guinea Worm and Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and of course, the Spanish flu. MERS stands for Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome, it’s plastered all over airports and no one blogs about it.”

“So why should China get a pass?”

He jokingly added, “Jesus f–king Christ can’t we even have a pandemic without getting offended. When they name Lyme Disease after a town in Connecticut the locals didn’t get all ticked off.”

The World Health Organization previously confirmed that the coronavirus outbreak originated in Wuhan, China at the end of 2019.

Opponents of the term “Chinese virus”  state that “its usage could lead to increased discrimination and racism toward Asian Americans — a marginalized group with a long history of being scapegoated amid public health crises,” according to The Washington Post.

Meanwhile, as hypocritic liberals cry about mistreating the Chinese, Africans are reportedly being denied access to hotels, apartments, supermarkets, public transport in China, and it’s being done to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Popular YouTuber Professor Black Truth noted “The Chinese government targeted Africans in 2004 before the Olympics and now they’re doing it again in the name of “preventing the spread of Covid-19.  The US has already been waging a war to make blacks the face of the virus to justify their own pre-planned “solution,” ” he wrote. 

A commenter under PB’s latest video titled, “US & China Use Covid-19 To Target Blacks. A Pretext For Ethnic Cleansing,” made a valid point in the comment section of the clip, writing: “Notice how the same people who were crying about don’t be mean to Asians. They are very quiet now that Africans are being mistreated by Asians. Remember there’s always going to be some idiot that  going to tell people of African descent that we should be forgiving and turn the other cheek. While at the same time co-signing the other groups mistreatment of people of African descent.”

One Twitter user wrote, “China Must Explain How Coronavirus could reach Africa without getting to Beijing and Shanghai China Must Explain how they can blame Africans for infecting them with Coronavirus when the virus originated from Wuhan,China. China Must Explain why they eat Bats.”

Another added, “When COVID-19 is done, [the] world MUST hold China accountable for Crimes Against Humanity. Just like Holocaust, China unleashed either thru their foods or labs an epidemic, hid it, muffled whistleblowers. China MUST pay reparations to countries affected.”

“It’s not racist to point out that eating bats is bats–t crazy,” he said on the show, adding, “We should blame China. Not Chinese Americans. If the sun was exploding, Twitter would pile on the first guy who called it a dwarf star.”

“So when someone says, ‘what if people hear Chinese Virus and blame China?’ the answer is, we should blame China. Not Chinese Americans, but we can’t stop telling the truth because racists get the wrong idea,” he continued.

“There are always going to be idiots out there who want to indulge their prejudices. But this is an emergency. Don’t we have bigger tainted fish to fry?”
