Colin Kaepernick Donates $100,000 to Coronavirus Relief Fund for ‘Black and Brown Communities’ [VIDEO]

*Colin Kaepernick announced on social media this week that he’s donating $100,000 to a coronavirus relief fund, which will go toward aiding “black and brown communities” affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fund is in partnership with Kap’s “Know Your Rights” campaign, which will focus on providing food, shelter relief, education, personal protective gear to help stop the spread of the deadly contagion, CNN reports. 

“Black and brown communities are being disproportionally devastated by Covid-19 because of hundreds of years of structural racism,” Kaepernick says in a video posted to his Twitter. “That’s why we’ve established the “Know Your Rights” Camp Covid-19 Relief Fund to help address these issues.”

A statement on the fund’s website reads: “Black and Brown people are more likely to be infected, less likely to be tested, less likely to be treated, and more likely to die from COVID-19.”

Kaepernick is the latest celebrity to donate to a coronavirus releif fund to help combat the virus’ impact on the ecnomy and the healthcare systme. 

On Wednesday, it was announced that Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation, Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation, and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s #startsmall, have collectively donated another $6.2 million towards COVID-19 relief.

Rihanna recently teamed up with Dorsey to provide relief to domestic violence victims. The singer has also donated $5 million to various organizations to provide coronavirus relief efforts, in addition to pledging another $1 million alongside Jay-Z, to help those most affected in Los Angeles and New York. 

Singer Pink donated $500,000 to the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund and to the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Emergency Covid-19 Crisis Fund.

Earlier this month, Oprah Winfrey said she was donating $10 million “to help Americans during this pandemic in cities across the country.”
