Charlotte resident Rachel Brummert described her COVID-19 ordeal to WCNC, an NBC affiliate, noting that the experience was the sickest she has ever been.

Brummert, who suffers from an autoimmune disorder, putting her at greater risk for contracting the virus, said she left her home once for a pharmacy run in mid-March. Since then, she has been living in a separate room from her husband.

“I really thought I was doing everything right,” Brummert said, adding that she even wore gloves anytime she retrieved the mail.
