New Amersterdam’s Jocko Sims Talks Dr. Reynolds Future (Watch)

*Fans of the hit NBC medical drama “New Amsterdam” are still waiting to find out if Dr. Floyd Reynolds (Jocko Sims) has really left the series for good.

The last time we saw Dr. Reynolds, he was leaving New York and headed to San Francisco to join his fiancée Evie.

Although the season finale will air this week, it isn’t the episode originally planned. Production was closed with three more episodes remaining to film when precautions were put in place to slow the spread of Covid-19 in New York.

EUR correspondent Jill Munroe caught up to the actor to discuss Dr. Reynolds’ future, and how working on the series has changed him as an actor.

“We won’t see what happens with Reynolds at the end of season 2. No matter what happens, working on this show has been a gift. I’m not saying you won’t see Reynolds again. There are five different scenarios; he’s leaving for good, that he’s coming back or that we’re seeing him in San Francisco and his life there and that’s it or it could be a spin-off. We’ll get that wrap up in season 3.”

In another bit of irony, an episode from season this season was pulled because the subject matter hit a little too close to home. In the episode – which takes place after Reynolds has left for San Francisco – a new doctor is introduced and is played by actor Daniel Dae Kim. His character was brought in to deal with a flu pandemic sweeping through New York. Kim recently announced that he tested positive for the coronavirus but was doing well. As of now, there are no plans to air that episode.

When discussing the role of Reynolds, Sims shared that growing up, he had dreams of becoming a doctor. When he got to college and discovered that it required 12 years of school, he decided to pursue his other passion.

I always wanted to play a doctor. It took 14, 15 years to grow into that professionally, and find the role. And then book the role, for everything to be aligned. I couldn’t be prouder to be on this network, it’s the best on TV.

To be on a show that people respond to… Now that I’ve stepped into the shoes of doing something like this, these are the roles that I like. So, whether or not Reynolds is there, I’m looking forward to this show going on for a long time and for me to be able to play more roles such as this.

The season Finale of “New Amsterdam airs Tuesday on NBC at 10:00 PM.
