Moviefone’s New Owner is Hollywood Producer Cleveland O’Neal III

Cleveland O’Neal

*Hollywood producer Cleveland O’Neal III has come forward as the buyer of Moviefone, which was sold last week in a bankruptcy auction for $1 million.

Moviefone was once valued at nearly $400 million, but O’Neal copped it for a tiny fraction of that amount.

The Los Angeles-based creator of the syndicated daytime TV series “Made in Hollywood,” announced his holding company Born in Cleveland LLC is the new owner of the film listings service.

“The integration of ‘Made In Hollywood’s’ TV assets with Moviefone’s iconic digital/mobile/social assets is a perfect marriage of entertainment brands providing a 360 solution for our advertising, studio, broadcast and streaming partners across multiple platforms,” O’Neal said in a statement provided to Variety.

Moviefone, founded in 1989, was auctioned during bankruptcy proceedings for MoviePass and its parent, Helios & Matheson Analytics Inc. O’Neal’s company was the winning bidder, and a bankruptcy court judge approved the transaction last week, the report states.

“Helios bought Moviefone in April 2018 from Oath Inc., the subsidiary of Verizon formerly known as AOL, for a cash-and-stock that was then worth $23 million,” per BizJournals.com

The call-in service is best known for being featured in the sitcom “Seinfeld.” The company now operates a website with information about theatrical and home video titles.

O’Neal, founder of production and distribution firm Connection III Entertainment Corp., intends to use Moviefone to expand the “Made in Hollywood” TV brand.

“Made In Hollywood”  has been running since 2005 and is currently in its 15th season. It airs on local TV channel groups, including CBS and Fox owned-and-operated stations. The show features interviews with movie stars and directors and viewers get a look at theatrical, streaming and home movie releases.

Moviefone reportedly has only one employee. O’Neal says he plans to evaluate future hires.
