*”Today” co-anchor Hoda Kotb broke down in tears on Friday after interviewing New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who made a $5 million donation to help coronavirus victims in Louisiana.
Kotb thanked Brees for his generous donation and said that other people will be inspired by it to contribute as well. “Drew, we love ya!” she said. She then was overcome with emotion.
“I’m sorry,” she said, fighting tears. Kotb worked as an anchor in New Orleans for CBS station WWL-TV in the 1990s.
Co-anchor Savannah Guthrie watched helplessly from her makeshift basement home studio, saying, “It’s a lot. I know where your heart is, my dear, I do.”
Kotb, who has been the lone anchor in Studio 1A, was unable to continue on to her tease, prompting Guthrie to take over.
