*(SILVER SPRING, MD) – March 25, 2020 – TV One’s award-winning documentary series UNSUNG gives viewers a soul music break from social-distancing with the story of Grammy Award-winning crooner, Billy Paul, this Sunday, March 29 at 10 p.m. ET/9C.

Born in North Philadelphia in the 1930s, Billy Paul grew up in a neighborhood that served as a hotbed for flourishing jazz artists. After a chance meeting with Kenny Gamble in the late 1960s, his mix of jazz and R&B helped define the emerging Philadelphia sound. Paul also served as a figure in the ‘60s Civil Rights movement.

When “Me and Mrs. Jones” catapulted the crooner to international fame in 1972, the price tag of success came with a heavy cost. Paul struggled with substance abuse and had difficulty finding mainstream success throughout the rest of his career, despite releasing a string of solid chart singles throughout the ’70s.

Paul passed away in 2016 and in this episode, his wife of 50 years, Gamble & Huff and others come together to pay tribute to one of the great ‘unsung’ singers of his time.
