Cause of Death & Name of Legendary Biological Father Revealed for Ja’Net DuBois

*”Good Times” star Ja’Net DuBois, died unexpectedly in her sleep last month. She was found unresponsive at her daughter’s home in Glendale, CA, and now we know her cause of death.

According to the death certificate, the actress died from cardiac arrest. She was 74.

TMZ reports that Ja’Net had been suffering from peripheral vascular disease and chronic kidney disease for years, according to the document. It also says hypertension was a contributing factor in her death. She was cremated and some ashes were scattered at sea.

DuBois is survived by her 3 children.

DuBois’ death certificate was released by Los Angeles County Public Health office and obtained by TMZ and  her name is listed as Jeannette T. Calloway-DuBois and lists her father as the American musical legend, Cab Calloway rather than Gordon DuBois, the man who contributed to raising her throughout her adolescent years.

Following her death, Ja’Net’s former “Good Times” costar Janet Jackson penned the following heartfelt message to DuBois’ friends, family and fans:

“I am so very saddened to hear my longtime friend Ja’Net DuBois has passed away. I saw first hand how she broke stereotypes and changed the landscape for Black women in entertainment. I’m grateful in recent years I had a chance to see her and create more lasting memories. I pray for comfort for all her family and friends. Thank you Ja’Net, I’ll miss you.”

DuBois’ friend and former costar Bernadette Stanis told the Associated Press she learned of the star’s death from DuBois’ daughter.

“She used to keep us laughing all the time,” Stanis told AP. “She was very, very talented. If she wasn’t singing… she was creating a character to make us laugh.”

In addition to her role in “Good Times,” Ja’Net appeared in a number of television series including “The Love Boat,” “The Facts of Life,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “ER and The PJs” as “Mrs. Avery.”
