*British reporter Victoria Mather is catching heat for the inflammatory remarks she made about Meghan Markle during an interview with MSNBC.
Mather referred to Meghan as “five clicks up from trailer trash” during a segment on Saturday, and the moment has since gone viral. Fans of Prince Harry and his wife are citing it as yet another example of why the couple are scaling back their duties as working members of the royal family.
During the MSNBC Live segment, Mather said the Duchess of Sussex has been “disrespectful” to the royal family and its protocol.
“I think what has really, really upset the British public is that Meghan Markle, who many people consider as only, you know, five clicks up from trailer trash, has actually tried to disrespect the queen,” she said. “And the queen is the most respected person, most respected woman, in the world.”

Mather was wrongly identified by the news channel as a “Vanity Fair Royal Watcher,” but she has not worked at the publication since 2018. Her hate for Markle has been noted over the years for Air Mail, writing how the former actress is “trailer trash” and dubbed her the “Duchess of Excess.”
“As for the reported feud between the duchesses, that was a story waiting to happen,” she wrote, in reference to the endless British tabloids about Markle’s relationship with senior royals. “Catherine comes from a stable, close-knit family. Meghan comes from a sadly dysfunctional family, leading to her being unpleasantly trolled as trailer trash.”
Fans have bombarded Mather with criticism, taking to the comments section of her Twitter page to express their fury over Britain’s overt racism toward the first Black member of the Royal Family.

“Given this type of comment, no wonder Meghan Markle left,” wrote one user, per popculture.com.
“I don’t get upset often, but dammit I’m upset now,” added another. “The racism, bullying & lies about the Duchess of Sussex has gotten completely out of hand. [Victoria Mather]: What you just said about The Duchess of Sussex was wrong, racist & very disrespectful.”
“Toe curling and rude. Don’t know who she is but she will probably regret that,” wrote a third user. “That said, they did disrespect the queen and seem to want their cake and eat it. Being insulting and rude like that though, won’t get the message out, that’s just ignorant.”
In related news, The Sun reports that Markle has revealed baby Archie is nearly walking.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have returned to the U.K. to complete the last of their royal duties, and Markle spoke about her 10-month-old son as she visited Robert Clack Upper School in Dagenham, east London.
“I did ask her how Archie is and she said to me he’s 10 months old today and he’s just trying to walk,” said 66-year-old Geraldine Dear, one of the women involved in the Dagenham Ford strikes.
“She was talking about how having Archie has changed her life and how important motherhood is,” said 13-year-old student Olivia Collins.
Archie has been living in Canada following Harry and Meghan’s decision to quit the royal family. During their recent trip to the UK, their baby stayed behind, where the family are currently living on Vancouver Island.
