That Time Teena Marie Guest Starred on ‘The Beverly Hillbillies’ (EUR Video Flashback)

*Flash back who’s that…

Teena Marie, a.k.a. The Vanilla Child, would’ve been 64-years-old today. Born Mary Christine Brockert on March 5, 1956 in Santa Monica, California, she went by her childhood nickname Tina until Rick James crossed her path while both were signed to Motown. He changed its spelling to “Teena,” added “Marie” and collaborated with the multi-talented singer and musician for her 1979 debut album “Wild and Peaceful.”

In addition to singing, Marie wrote, produced and arranged pretty much all of her material since her second album, 1980’s “Irons in the Fire.” She also played keyboards, the congas and rhythm guitar.

But did you know that Teena Marie was also an actress? At age 8, she played a character that mirrors the real life multi-talented performer she would become.

Below, an 8-year-old Mary Christine Brockert appears as a multi-talented child star-in-the-making with a pushy stage mother in a 1964 episode of “The Beverly Hillbillies.” Thinking her child would be the next Shirley Temple, her mother brings her to perform for Jed Clampett, assuming he could get her into showbusiness with his money.

Watch below. Teena Marie is interviewed about the episode at the 4:40 mark:
