*Writer, producer, actress and Emmy award winner Lena Waithe has done it again. Her new show “Twenties,” which airs on BET, is sure to be a hit.
Waithe is very talented at telling stories no one else wants to tell. “Twenties” is not only loosely based on Lena’s life as a young LGBT woman of color, but the lives of young black creatives in LA. Most people can relate to this show, whether you are part of the LGBT+ community or not. Once again, Lena is pushing the envelope and making history by having a masculine lesbian as the lead character of a show.
“Twenties” follows Hattie as she navigates through her twenties, trying to balance work, love and surviving in Los Angeles. For most of us whose 20s are behind them, this show can be a trip down memory lane; just relating to the mistakes made through naivete and or arrogance of thinking you know it all already. For those who are still in their 20s, this series will show you that you are not alone in most of the daily struggles you go through. The show also focuses on Hattie’s two friends, one being Marie, seems to have it all together already. She is an executive at a production company and married. While her other friend, Nia, is a yoga instructor on a new spiritual journey.

Our correspondent LMarie was at the premiere of “Twenties” and spoke with the cast about the show.
” We wanted to tell stories about African Americans doing things that other people weren’t talking about,” says Scott Mills the President of BET.
Lena shares with us why she created the show …
“I think it was something that I knew needed to be done. I always tell people, tell the story you got to tell before you hit the grave.”
