*”American Idol” is billing this moment from last night’s show as a contestant who “came in off the street,” sang for the judges and earned a spot in the Hollywood round.
But 22-year-old Courtney Timmons of Harris Neck, Ga wasn’t just a random person walking by who was chosen out of the blue. She had been standing outside since 8 a.m. that morning hoping for a miracle to happen, because she had missed the deadline to sign up. Host Ryan Seacrest said he was “walking down the street” when he saw Courtney “on the corner” looking sad.
After she told Ryan that auditioning for “Idol” was her dream and that she was willing to sit around and wait all day, he brought her up the elevator. Timmons brought Seacrest to tears with her rendition of “Rise Up” by Andra Day. Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan were also impressed.
The show wants us to believe that this tryout was spontaneous and an “Idol” first. Watch below and you be the judge. Something smells staged.
