Weekend Watch: ‘The Invisible Man’ is Best Remake

*It’s clear to anyone seeing H.G Wells’ “The Invisible Man” remake that it’s the best reboot of a horror classic. Oftentimes viewing remakes is like watching paint dry or enduring root canal.

With “The Invisible Man” you can check all the boxes: great cast, believable storyline (for a scifi genre), numerous nail-biting scenes, a kickass female protagonist, and twists and turns.

One of the most important elements of surprise is the family chosen for Cecilia Kass’ (Elisabeth Moss) escape—childhood friend James Lanier (Aldis Hodge) and his daughter Sydney (Storm Reid). It is highly unlikely this kind of scenario would be in a 1933, or for that matter, many films today. Kudos to brilliant director and writer Leigh Whannell.

Trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with the wealthy and innovative scientist Adrian Griffin (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), Cecilia’s flight to freedom is in the dead of night, as she fears for her life.

When Cecilia’s abusive ex commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, she suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turn lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia sets out to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.

“The Invisible Man” also stars Harriet Dyer, and Michael Dorman.
