*”The Masked Singer” isn’t the first reality show that Dionne Warwick has blessed with her legendary presence.
Before she put on The Mouse costume for the Fox series, the six-time Grammy-winning singer, former host of TV’s”Solid Gold,” cousin to the late Whitney Houston and singer of such classic hits as “Walk on By,” “I Say A Little Prayer” and “Déjà Vu” took a spin on NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” that was so hilariously contentious that she ended up firing herself.
“It dawned on me that I was about to ruin a 50-year career,” she told SiriusXM host Bevy Smith last May of her TV stint with “Donald.” Surprisingly enough, Warwick also said during the interview that she would never do another reality show after her “Celebrity Apprentice” catastrophe.
Not only did Dionne step back into reality television in 2020 with “The Masked Singer,” she seemed to really enjoy getting to belt out her chosen tunes anonymously each week. She even told the judges at her unmasking Wednesday that she had “the best time.”
This “Masked Singer” exit is a far cry from the self-firing that followed her disastrous appearance on “Celebrity Apprentice” in 2011. By the time Warwick self-deported, her impatience with other cast members and my-way-or-the-highway dominance had pissed off LaToya Jackson, Star Jones, NeNe Leakes, Lisa Rinna and even Marlee Matlin. At one point, NeNe said to the camera, “No one cares about her being a legend.”
What a difference nine years makes. Warwick’s reputation as a “legend” has since been restored, while Trump’s reputation as a human being has plummeted to untold depths.
