*Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, representing New York’s 14th congressional district in Washington, stopped by The Breakfast Club to talk politics, including her self-proclaimed brand of Democratic Socialism. That term scares pretty much all conservatives and some Democrats. But AOC says this country has had socialist programs from the jump.

“My political ideology has really come from people in the American tradition like Howard Thurman, Martin Luther King, even Albert Einstein was a Democratic Socialist, she said. “Ella Baker, James Baldwin. All of these folks come from a tradition of critique of this obsession with money and profit and capital at all human and environmental cost.

“When you actually examine our history, and when you actually look at the present day, some of the most popular policies and things that we have are not capitalist – Medicare, Medicaid, social security, libraries, public schools, firefighters, infrastructure, none of these things were built because they come at a profit. We’ve decided that some things are sacred.
