*Los Angeles, CA – The Black AIDS Institute (BAI) hosted its 20th Annual Heroes in the Struggle Gala on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the California African American Museum.

Actor and activist, Jay Ellis welcomed the audience along with Senator Holly Mitchell.

One the evening’s highlights was when celebrity photographer Steven Williams, whose clients range from Regina King, Steve Harvey, Rodney Jerkins, Destiny’s Child, Michael Jackson, BabyFace, Tracey Edmonds Tichina Arnold and Bishop Noel Jones, donated a photo of Kobe Bryant with Destiny’s Child to the Black Aids institute for their live auction to raise monies to assist in the fight against HIV/Aids.

Williams who is a Los Angeles native was the photographer for Destiny’s Child platinum-selling CD single, “Bugabo.”  In this iconic music video, Kobe Bryant becomes the object of affection for Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Letoya Luckett and Lavatia Roberson.

Williams recounts how Bryant was a natural in front of the camera and waited patiently as Destiny’s Child prepared for the shoot. Kobe was comfortable on set and was friendly to everyone including crew and was grateful to Tina & Matthew Knowles for the opportunity.

The video was shot at Fairfax H.S in 1999. The 13×19 print of Kobe with Destiny’s Child was auctioned off for $2500. The foundation raised over 300k to help those in need.
