*Emmy winner and Academy Award nominee Ava DuVernay has executive produced a new anthology series entitled, “Cherish the Day,” which will premiere on the Oprah Winfrey Network this month on February 11 and 12. In celebration, the network hosted an upscale launch event in Atlanta for DuVernay and the cast, along with other celebrities (Jan. 26).
“Cherish the Day” was inspired by Sade’s classic love song of the same name. According to OWN’s press release: Chapter one of “Cherish the Day” chronicles the stirring relationship of one couple, with each episode spanning a single day. The narrative will unfold to reveal significant moments in a relationship that compel us to hold true to the ones we love, from the extraordinary to the everyday. Xosha Roquemore (“The Mindy Project”) stars as Gently James and Alano Miller (“Underground”) stars as Evan Fisher. The couple meets and fall in love in Los Angeles, with the full season spanning five years in eight episodes.
Additional cast members include Anne-Marie J0hnson, Michael Beach, Cicely Tyson and Kellee Stewart.

DuVernay was not available on the carpet for interviews, however, she and the cast sat down for a panel discussion to discuss the series, as well as to provide a sneak peek of the first season. DuVernay stated that she was inspired to make this series by her own parents, who were a demonstration of two people with completely different backgrounds and personalities that were able to come together and have a successful, loving marriage.
“I needed a break from history and I think there is a revolutionary act in exploring love … love relationships and when they see us, because I think to be black and to maintain love in this country is a revolutionary act.”
