On ‘The Real’: Why India.Arie is Seriously Considering Retiring – WATCH

*On Friday, Jan 24, the hosts of The Real co-host Amanda Seales reveals that she once was headed to Miami for New Year’s with a well-known guy – but he had to call her mom first!

Co-host Tamera Mowry-Housley isn’t sure she wants to know the dating status of her divorced parents. And would you pay extra to be a “VIP Guest” at someone’s wedding?

Later, Grammy-Award winning singer and songwriter India.Arie stops by to talk about her Grammy nomination this weekend for her song “Steady Love.” She shares why she is seriously considering retirement, and why the outfit she is planning for the Grammys is going more of a true reflection of who she is than in years past.

Amanda Once Went To Miami For New Year’s With a Well-Known Guy– Who Had To Call Her Mom First!

Amanda Seales: So – actually this story just came to mind – so, I – a certain individual had asked me to go to with them to Miami for New Year’s one year. And the person is a known person.

Jeannie Mai: And how old were you?

Amanda: Grown. Like 29. Or, 26. Around there. And my mom was like, [Caribbean accent] “Well I need to speak to this person, because I don’t know who they are, I don’t know where they’re from.” [Regular voice] And this person, who again, is a known person, had to call my mama!

Jeannie: Yes! I love it, yes!

Amanda: Had to call my mama and be like, “Hello Miss Seales, this is BEEP, and I would like to take Amanda to Miami for New Year’s.” And my mom was like, [Caribbean accent] “What is the plan?”

Loni Love: That’s right.

Amanda: But like – I mean, and then finally she was like, [Caribbean accent] “Well, you know, I am just saying, protect my daughter or I will find you!” [Regular voice] And that was that!

[The Real audience applauds]

Tamera Mowry-Housley: See? I think that’s love, right?

Amanda: But that did make me feel good.

Tamera: Oh yes, right.

Amanda: But to this day, he’s like, “You know I had to call your mother?” I’m like, “I know.” But we just friends now.
