*The 26th Screen Actors Guild Awards were held on Sunday night and unlike the Oscars, the SAG Awards acknowledged the work from people of color.
Jamie Foxx, Lupita Nyong’o, Jharrel Jerome and Sterling K Brown were nominated for their performances in 2019. Although none of them took home the Sag Award last night, it shows the Sag Awards are inclusive with their nominees.
This could be because the SAG Awards, which is short for Screen Actors Guild Awards, is held by fellow actors who vote and nominate their peers for their awards. Speaking of SAG being a part of inclusion and diversity, they recently appointed Courtney B. Vance as the president of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
Our correspondent L.Marie spoke with Courtney on the red carpet about the importance of his new role, “It was important to me to not sit on the sidelines anymore,” says Vance.
We also spoke with other actors on the carpet to find out what their favorite performances were from 2019. Crystal Fox (OWN’s “The Haves and the Have Nots”) shared with us that Fosse/Verdon starring Sam Rockwell, who won for his role in the film, was her favorite and also Judy starring Renee Zellweger, who also won last night.
We briefly spoke with Crystal about her recent role in Tyler Perry’s new film, A Fall From Grace, which has a buzz on social media with fans saying the movie isn’t like Tyler Perry’s other films and fans were shocked at how fast the film was made. The movie was filmed in only 5 days but that wasn’t unusual for Crystal, “The nervousness for me came when Tyler entrusted me to lead a film,” she says.
Most of the actors we spoke with about their favorite performances of the year were pretty spot on. The top choices being Parasite, Joker and Fosse/Verdon which all won Sag awards last night. Check out the video above for the full interviews.
