Aretha Franklin’s Son Slams Biopic Starring Jennifer Hudson, Calls for Boycott

 *The youngest son of Aretha Franklin is calling for a boycott of the upcoming MGM biopic “Respect,” starring Jennifer Hudson

Kecalf Franklin recently explained his disdain for the project on social media, claiming his family doesn’t support the film.  

“ONCE AGAIN….. THE FRANKLIN FAMILY (DOES NOT) SUPPORT THE MOVIE THAT IS IN PRODUCTION!!!!!” he wrote in a message on Facebook. “NOR DO WE SUPPORT THE BOOK ‘THE QUEEN NEXT DOOR’!!!!! NEITHER ENTITY FELT THE NEED TO CONTACT THE (CORE) FAMILY ABOUT ANYTHING!!!!”

In the post, he also slammed the 2019 book titled “The Queen Next Door: Aretha Franklin, An Intimate Portrait,” which was written by the singer’s longtime personal photographer Linda Solomon, per New York Daily News. 

“HOW CAN YOU MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT A PERSON AND NOT TALK TO THE PERSONS SONS OR GRANDCHILDREN ABOUT IMPORTANT INFORMATION?” he continued. “HOW CAN YOU PUT A PERSONS FAMILY (IMAGE) IN A BOOK AND NOT ASK PERMISSION? IF YOU ARE A “REAL” FAN OF MY MOTHERS….PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS. ASK YOURSELF….WOULD YOU WANT THIS DONE TO YOU?

Franklin, who goes by the name Eradesent Views on Facebook, wants fans of his mother to know that she only approved of Hudson’s casting.

“Everything else is being done against our wishes,” he wrote.

Franklin signed his message as “THE ‘REAL’ FRANKLIN FAMILY (sons and grandchildren).”

We previously reported, Hudson says she hopes to make Aretha Franklin “proud” with her portrayal of the late music icon in an upcoming biopic. 

“I just hope I make her proud [and] do her justice,” Hudson said about playing Franklin in the biopic “Respect,” set to drop next year. 

 “I am just taking it one step at a time, one day at a time,” she said in an  interview with Sunday Today (via PEOPLE). “All I want to do is pay tribute to her and meet her requests, you know? Like, ‘Aretha said do this?’ — ‘Yes, ma’am.’”

She added, “Those are huge shoes to fill.”

The star-studded cast includes, Forest Whitaker, Audra McDonald, Mary J. Blige, Heather Headley, Marlon Wayans, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, and Tate Donovan.

“Respect is scheduled to be released Oct. 18.
