*Los Angeles, CA ̶ Having made its official debut on Monday, December 30, 2019, The Comedy Act Planet presents its new web series, “The Comedy Act Planet’s Legacy Webisode Series.”
The series reveals eyewitness testimonials from individuals who provide firsthand accounts of what they witnessed and participated in, the birth of organized black stand-up comedy in America.
Founded in 1985, The Comedy Act Planet (formerly known as the Comedy Act Theatre) was the first African American comedy club and chain in America. The business offered an undeserved pool of black comedic talent to an audience whose generation was experiencing stand-up comedy entertainment for the first time.
The web series allows viewers a glimpse into history. They will see the rise of the modern-day black comedian and the institution that made a historical and cultural impact on America’s entertainment history.
“There is no doubt that The Comedy Act Theatre played a prominent role in the development of today’s comedy stars. However, there is a new audience that is not aware of its rich heritage,” stated Michael E. Williams, owner of the iconic club. Williams, the series producer, is pleased to present “The Comedy Act Planet’s Legacy Webisode Series.”
Each video will spotlight the genesis of some of the country’s most exceptional comedic talent. The premier webisode features comedians Kym Whitley, Myra J, Pierre Edwards, Doo Doo Brown and, Executive Producer/Writer Erich Van Lowe. These accomplished show business professionals share their personal stories and observations on the role the theatre played in their lives as well as in the social scene in Los Angeles, CA, at that time.
