*If you’ve been wondering what’s going to happen with the TV and film projects the late John Witherspoon was involved in, we’ve got some answers for you.

As far as Aaron McGruder’s upcoming The Boondocks” revival, we hear Jenifer Lewis has volunteered to fill in for Grandpa. You can get the full story on that at The Root’s Grapevine blog.

Now, as far as how the late funnyman’s passing would affect the much-delayed final installment of “Friday,” it was rather uncertain until earlier this week.

Would ya believe that Ice Cube – the creative force behind the funny flick franchise – provided an unexpected update while speaking about the film on Twitter. Cube was asked whether “Friday” was canceled or still a go in light of Witherspoon’s death. Let’s just say his response was quite candid.

“Back to the drawing board since New Line Cinema was slow on green lighting the LAST FRIDAY script that was full of Mr. Jones,” he tweeted. “I’ve been pissed off about it since Spoon passed away.”

And when asked if it wouldn’t just be better to take the film to another studio, he was again candid and straight to the point.

“New Line has the rights to distribute that movie,” he responded.

Dang, we don’t blame Ice Cube for being frustrated and pissed off. Think about this, as The Grapevine notes …  “Friday After Next” was released 18 years ago and “Last Friday” has been in developmental hell for nearly as long. And now, because of Witherspoons’s passing, is basically slowing the process all over again.

The franchise and Witherspoon’s legacy deserve better.
