Rapper DaBaby Detained (but not Arrested) for Weed After Charity Toy Giveaway – VIDEO

*Rapper DaBaby found himself being hassled by cops in Charlotte, North Carolina Monday night just hours after giving away toys and doing a concert.

Dude has the right to be pissed after Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detained him, but didn’t arrest him. Instead, he was issued citations for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and resisting an officer Monday night, news outlets reported.

Video obtained by WCNC-TV reportedly shows the rapper being detained in the parking lot. He says officers target him every time he comes to Charlotte. DaBaby, whose real name is Johnathan Kirk, told reporters he believes officers unlawfully searched his car while he was on stage at Bojangles Arena.

“They follow me, they pull us over for no reason, they search our cars,” Kirk said.

So far, authorities haven’t directly responded to DaBaby’s charges, but according to TMZ, they are claiming that when DaBaby arrived for the concert officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from his vehicle and observed marijuana in plain view inside (Note: marijuana is still ILLEGAL in North Carolina). They cops decided they would speak with him after the concert.

Police added that after the show he refused to speak with officers and walked away, which is why he was detained while they searched his vehicle. Cops found less than one-half ounce of marijuana inside. Initially, he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and resisting.

After transporting him, officers decided they would issue him two citations instead. CMPD has launched an Internal Affairs investigation to determine if officers followed department polices during the incident.
