*This Christmas you can hang out with an NBA Champion!
Catch Kevin Garnett in his film debut, “Uncut Gems,” a high-speed drama about a New York jeweler (Adam Sandler), making a sequence of high-stakes gambles in pursuit of an ultimate score.
EUR correspondent Fahnia Thomas interviewed the former MVP of the NBA and co-star Julia Fox about the crime thriller, trinkets and the Sandman.
Q:What kind of gems are you wearing?
KG: I have on a necklace and watch. I keep it real chill.
JF: I like diamonds! My engagement ring is an Alexandrite ring and it’s actually more precious than a diamond and changes colors under different light sources. I’m a gem connoisseur.
KG: Do you do crystals?
JF: No! Crystals are cheap! I like precious stones.
Q: Have you ever lost any jewelry?
KG: Yeah, when I was young and used to go out. [One time when I was out] the crowd hit us and we all fell down these steps and I lost an earring. I used to wear earrings back in the day…they were kind of big. I lost one and had my whole team trying to look for it. But we never found it.
Q: Why don’t you wear earrings anymore?
KG: I have kids now. I try to tone it down a little bit. I don’t really bop the same. I turned the bop down.
Q: What was it like playing a version of yourself?
KG: It wasn’t that hard. I don’t want to sound boisterous or anything but I gave off what people know me to be. I was a player who was [going into a store] looking for jewelry. I’ve [personally] bought jewelry from Tito (Caicedo, Manny the Jeweler) and Jacob (Arabo, the Jeweler) before, so [in the film] I was taking myself back to when I was trying to talk Jacob down from this number to that number. That’s what the dialogue felt like with Howard (Adam Sandler’s character). I really went back to that.
Q: What was it like working with Adam?
KG: The first time I saw Adam as Howard (Ratner) I was like, ‘OH! Wow!’ At times I didn’t know if he was acting or [what], I was in awe!
