Support These Skincare Solutions for Black Women

When Black people face a problem, they don’t give up – they look for other solutions. Black women even came up with another solution when they saw that the skincare industry was ignoring their skin tone.

We spoke to some entrepreneurs who are changing the face of aisles in supermarkets with their own Black skincare products. Get ready to fall in love with following the brilliant minds and game-changing brands.

1.     Ozohu Adoh of Epara Skincare

Even though she had an accounting degree from Oxford University, this woman never wished to start her brand of Black skincare products. Year after dealing with misdiagnosed rashes and dry skin, she was frustrated beyond imagination. This is when she found that there were too many nuances around her skin type, and she had to cook up a solution herself.

Long story short, Adoh came up with a special blend of botanicals, butters, and African oils, forming a moisturizing blend. This line of products is being called ‘Epara,’ and it addresses dark spots on the user’s skin without affecting the overall level of melanin in their skin.

2.     Katonya Breaux of Unsun Cosmetics

Most of the complaints skincare companies receive are with regard to sunscreen products. Some people even say that these formulas leave Black and Brown skin looking very ghostly. To fill in this gap in the market, Katyona Breaux came forward with her line of Unsun Cosmetics.

This woman had experienced an outbreak of unsightly bumps on her face because of too much skin exposure. Even her dermatologist told her that this was a result of genetics, but this was completely untrue.

Well, Breaux made sure that her line of products left an invisible and clean effect on Brown and Black skin, and all of these products can be worn easily under make-up.

3.     She’Neil Johnson & Nicolette Graves of Base Butter

“I felt like a lot of Black-owned skincare products were amazing, but they didn’t have the same experience as Glossier. I wanted my community to have that,” said She’Neil Johnson, the co-founder of Base Butter.

Since this product had been launched in 2015, it hasn’t been able to really capture brilliant profits – but this was simply a direct result of focusing on Black consumers. The founders, however, believe that it is alright and that they are pleased with their 98% Black consumer base.

Some other entrepreneurs that you should check out include Trinity Mouzon Wofford of Golde and Ashley Johnson of Jade & Fox Co. Start your skincare journey with those who truly appreciate it!
