THE REAL Welcomes Meagan Good and What Do the Hosts Think Of Being Called a ‘B*tch?’

*On Friday, Nov. 22, The Real celebrates Fri-Yay and welcomes back guest co-host Tisha Campbell!

The ladies discuss how some strong and assertive females are often labeled as being a “b*tch” and/or “cold-hearted” by both men and other women. Co-host Loni Love explains why she doesn’t find the term to be insulting, while co-host Tamera Mowry-Housley suggests alternative words that could be used to create a more positive context.

And, co-host Jeannie Mai explains that the definition of “Woman Spreading” is when a woman places belongings around her in public places so that no one can sit near her. Afterward, the hosts admit which of them are guilty of this act and which of them would gladly invite others to take a seat near them.

Then actress and director Meagan Good stops by to talk about her role on the Fox drama Prodigal Son, why she decided to freeze her eggs, and how she experienced overwhelming depression during the process.

What the Ladies Think About Being Called a “B*tch”

Loni Love: I don’t look at it as an insult. I look at it as being a strong woman.

(The Real audience applauds)

Loni: I think it’s something that people are not used to seeing. Especially a lot of men. I think when you speak up for yourself… and this is not just men that do this, other women call other women this. And it tends to be a little bit, uh, it could be a little bit of a negative thing… but, I wanted to throw it out… um, how would you feel about someone calling you that?

[Edit]

Tamera Mowry-Housley: To me, I think that’s a negative word.

Jeannie Mai: Yeah. Me, too.

Tamera: I wouldn’t want somebody to call me that. I would rather somebody call me… strong, direct, and assertive, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

(The Real audience applauds)

Adrienne Houghton: Yeah. Why not just use those words?

Tamera: Yeah.

Loni: I think because they wanna try to make you not be strong and assertive. So, they try to add an insult.

Tisha: Uh huh.

Loni: So, that’s why we flip the script and say, “Okay. That’s what you think I am, fine. But, get this done.” That’s what we’re saying.

Jeannie: And the three things, the three adjectives you just described, unfortunately in this work world – working world, get mistaken as coldhearted B. What you just said about being strong, direct. Like, those things…

Adrienne: Stoic.

Jeannie: Yeah. They get mixed up with being a B. And I just, I don’t know. As long as the woman is not rude or disrespectful. I like a women who know what she wants. Be cold if you need. Let’s get it done. I like it.

Tamera: Agreed.

Loni: And you can always check somebody and say, “No, that’s not my name. My name is Loni. My name is Tamera. My name is Jeannie. My name is Tisha. My name is Adrienne. That’s what you call me.”
