Delusional Studio Exec Wanted Julia Roberts to Play Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman, Julia Roberts

*Inquiring minds want to know the name of the studio executive who wanted to cast Julia Roberts play Harriet Tubman in the latest feature about the famed abolitionist.

Screenwriter Gregory Allen Howard explained in a Q&A published by Focus Features that he had been trying to get the “Harriet” movie made for quite a while, but noted  “the climate in Hollywood … was very different” when he first pitched the movie, Complex reports.

“I was told how one studio head said in a meeting, ‘This script is fantastic. Let’s get Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman,’” Allen said. “When someone pointed out that Roberts couldn’t be Harriet, the executive responded, ‘It was so long ago. No one is going to know the difference.’”

Folks across social media are now demanding to know the identity of this delusional studio executive.

Allen began working on the movie in 1994, but it took blockbusters such as “Black Panther” and “12 Years a Slave” to really get the film off the ground.

“When 12 Years a Slave became a hit and did a couple hundred million dollars worldwide, I told my agent, ‘You can’t say this kind of story won’t make money now.,’” Allen said. “Then Black Panther really blew the doors open.”

“Harriet” was ultimately financed with Cynthia Enrivo in the lead.

“I first saw her when the other producers flew me to New York to see her in The Color Purple,” Allen said. “As soon as she opened her mouth, I thought, ‘Yes, that’s Harriet.’ Afterwards I emailed the other producers, ‘That’s Harriet. She’s a little stick of dynamite.’”

Meanwhile, foundational Black Americans were not feeling Nigerian-born Enrivo as Tubman, and many noted the several anti-Black American tweets she posted in the past– therefore making her undeserving of the honor to play an iconic female figure from Black American history.

As such, “Harriet” was a total bomb at the box office because FBA’s got on code and refused to support the film. But the revisionists and agent provocateurs claim the $12 million the film made opening weekend was a massive success.

Meanwhile, filmmaker Tariq Nasheed noted on Twitter, “Can anyone point to any other time in modern history where Hollywood & the mainstream media praised a movie and called it a “success” for making just $12 million dollars on opening weekend?”
