THE REAL Welcomes Everyone’s Favorite ‘Gladiator’ Kerry Washington! – WATCH

*On Thursday, November 14, The Real discusses singer and actress Miley Cyrus being forced to take a vocal rest for an extended period of time, making the ladies ponder whether they would be able to go for a few days without saying a word.

Co-hosts Adrienne Houghton and Jeannie Mai think they can do so under certain circumstances, but Loni Love begs to differ.  And, is there a right way and a wrong way to eat certain foods? The ladies have very strong feelings about this topic!

Then co-host Tamera Mowry-Housley thinks that there is a double standard in families regarding when sons and daughters are expected to move out of the house. She uses an experience that she and her sister Tia had when they were younger to make her case.

Later actress, producer, and everyone’s favorite “gladiator” Kerry Washington stops by to chat about her new Netflix series American Son, the special bond that she still has with her former Scandal castmates, and the honor she feels of being a pioneer for African American lead actresses on television.

Kerry Washington is Proud to Be a Pioneer for African American Lead Actresses on TV

Loni Love: How did you feel, like, representing… You were one of the first women to actually be, um, nominated for a drama… for an Emmy. And then to have a lead actress role. There was just so… I mean, how did that feel to have that responsibility?

Kerry Washington: Um, you know… I was really excited to be able to kind of make history by being the first woman who had done it in about forty years. But, really what was exciting for me was that after Scandal became a success- because of you guys (motions to the audience), not because of me, because audiences really showed up for us. Our gladiators- um, then there were more shows with women of color helming them. Whether it was How to Get Away With Murder, or Priyanka Chopra and her show… um, you know, we really… Empire and all of those shows were because audiences said “We want to see our heroes look like women and people of color.”

(The Real audience applauds)
