Black Woman Wins $205,000 Settlement after Cop Yanked Out Her Tampon in the Middle of the Street

*Natalie Simms was awarded $205,000 for facing police harassment, but can money undo this indignation? This woman agreed to accept the payout in Texas because her constitutional rights had been violated because of a cavity search in the middle of the town.  The cop even yanked her tampon out in the middle of his outrageous investigation.

“No Amount of Money Will Make Up for the Indignity and Humiliation…”

Simms’ attorney let the public know that there is no amount of money that the state can offer for the humiliation and indignity she suffered. Her attorney also said that the decision made by the police was grossly invasive while the city admitted its mistake with the settlement. Even though this is the case, the city’s attorney had the guts to say that it was done, “…in the best interest of all involved.”

What’s more? According to the attorney, the police even went so far as to try and contest the whole incident by saying that this wasn’t even a body cavity search. They contested this by saying that the removal of a tampon doesn’t fall into the category of a body cavity search because there was no evidence of physical penetration.

Well, it seems as if someone needs to be taught the difference between ‘searching’ and ‘penetrating’ someone.

Either way, the attorney spoke to a news channel saying that his client believes that there no dollar amount that can compare to what she had to go through. She simply thinks that when the newspaper reads “Black woman wins $205,000 settlement”, it means that the authorities recognized that someone DID cross the line.

Why the Events Transpired As They Did

According to the official report of the incident, Simms had simply been sitting somewhere on the street while talking on the phone and waiting for her boyfriend to arrive. Then, a group of police officers asked Simms if they could search inside her car. Simms had agreed right away because she had heard about all the cases where Black people were killed because they refused to comply with a police officer’s commands. Some may even say that she thought she didn’t have the right to refuse.

Well, shortly after, a female police officer had been summoned on the scene, and she proceeded with the body cavity search – in front of other male police officers. This incident, in itself, is quite surprising, because it is illegal for the police to strip search anyone in Texas without a warrant.

All Simms had to say after this incident was that she was “…just glad to get on with her life.” Sadly, this has been the norm for Black folks across America.
