New Movie (‘Waves’) Striking A Wave of Emotions – WATCH

*In November, a story of love, family, loss and good music is will be hitting the big screen making big “Waves.”

From highly respected director, Trey Edward Shults, comes a heart-wrenching story about compassion and growth while dealing with some of the darkest moments a family never thought they would face.

Waves” follows the emotional journey of an African-American family, led by a well-intentioned but domineering father (Sterling K. Brown) as they experience love, pain, forgiveness, and loss.

EURweb got to sit down with the enthralling cast. We discuss mental health, especially with the black community and what they learned from their characters personally.

“I took away a lot. I had just a really powerful experience playing that Character,” Alexa Demie says about playing her character, Alexis. “I kind of like, every night going back to my room and would kind of like, reflect and write letters to my younger self.”

Kelvin Harrison Jr. delves into depth on what his character, Tyler taught him.

“With Tyler, it was a lot of learning to forgive yourself. And understand that a lot of your own fears about your self- worth and your relationships with others kind of stems from other things and other family Traumas.”

 This riveting film touches on so many subjects, but there was one subject we just couldn’t leave out. The discussion of mental health and how important it is for everyone, especially the black community.

“I would say the time is yesterday to start talking about it,” Sterling K. Brown, who plays domineering family patriarch, Ronald says. “ Like on This Is Us, Randall deals with anxiety. As a producer, I am actively looking to put shows on the air that deal with mental health.”

Tony Award-winner Renée Elise Goldsberry replies, “It’s hard because we’re parents and we’re trying to learn from this, movie that we’re in.”

Goldsberry, who plays the mother, Catherine in the film explains …

“To know that children, very healthy normal children at some point look to their peers.”

“Waves” is a must-see and is in theaters Friday, November, 17. Make sure you’re there when it drops.
