Charlamagne Tha God Slams ‘New Jack City’ Reboot: ‘There’s Other Stories to Be Told’ [Watch]

*Warner Bros. is planning to remake the 90s crime flick “New Jack City,” with “Snowfall” actor Malcolm M. Mays set to pen the screenplay — and Black folks are not here for it.

Little has been revealed about the project so far, but Charlamagne Tha God has added his voice to the chorus of disapproval over the reported update of the classic 1991 crime drama.

“Classic, classic movie but fart on the idea [of a reboot],” he said during Angela Yee’s Rumor Report on Tuesday (September 24) during The Breakfast Club. “First of all — I hate to say this — but there’s so many new drug stories you can do. Like there’s so many different kingpins across the world — especially in the inner cities — there’s other stories to be told!”

The original film featured the #BlackStarPower of Mario Van Peebles, Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, Vanessa A. Williams, Chris Rock, Allen Payne, Judd Nelson and the late Bill Nunn.

“Everything don’t need a reboot, bruh,” Charlamagne added. “New Jack City is a classic as is. And plus for the time, that whole new jack swing era with the music and everything? Nah, leave New Jack City alone!”

“It’s actually a sequel, not a remake-reboot,” Mays said while clarifying the project.”[I] guess the cats out the bag now. It’s an honor.”
