Films and Filmmakers Announced for 25th Annual S. E. Manly Short Film Festival

*The African American Film Marketplace and S.E. Manly Short Film Festival takes place at the Cinemark 18 & XD Theaters at the Howard Hughes Promenade in Los Angeles, CA; October 23-24 and 26-27, 2019.

 The BHERC Youth Diversity Short Film Festival, featuring young aspiring filmmakers from youth-based organizations and High Schools, from across the country takes place Saturday October 26 beginning at 9 am. Closing Festivities on Sunday night includes a Soul Food Reception at 9:00 p.m.

In recognition of the 25th year anniversary, David Massey’s Oscar-nominated short, “Last Breeze of Summer,” and celebrated filmmaker and USC Film professor Dianne Houston’s’ “Tuesday Morning Ride,” starring the late Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee will be featured.  Visit BHERC.org or the full line up of films.

This year’s festival is packed with heartfelt and emotional themes,” said Sandra Evers-Manly. “We celebrate the class of 2019 filmmakers for their perseverance and determination. We are also elated to premiere five powerful films funded through our Films With Purpose philanthropy initiative!” Directed and written by five talented emerging filmmakers. The premiere will take place October 23 and 24 at Cinemark 18 & XD  Theaters at the Howard Hughes.  For tickets click here.

Films With A Purpose Premieres One Chance” is Wednesday, October 23rd  7:00pm at Cinemark 18 & XD Theater and on Thursday, October 24th Films With A Purpose Premieres “Imani,” “Dallas Invisible” & “Avenging Angels” at 7:00pm at Cinemark 18 & XD Theater and on Sunday, October 27th at 10am Films With A Purpose Premieres “DAD Speak” A Docu-short about a daughter who grew up without her dad, and dads who have been separated from their children.

We invite the community to help us to celebrate this monumental accomplishment. Meet the filmmakers Friday, October 25, during the opening Gala at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, 4708 W Washington Blvd, LA, CA 90016. Opening Gala $75; block of films $20 for students with ID and $25 for the general public; Day Pass $70; Closing Night Reception $35; Weekend Pass (includes Opening Night, All Day Pass for films, Closing Night Reception, T-Shirt and BHERC Commemorative Bag) $350.
