The Women Of The Real Explain That It’s OK For Them To “Agree To Disagree”

Loni Love: I am a curvaceous, dark-skinned woman…

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni: …who happens to have a deep voice, I have a mellow baritone voice…

Amanda Seales: C’mon Barry!

Loni: So you know, when I speak sometimes, people – you know, you see the comments – “She seems so negative, she seems so – like a bully.” I’m the sweetest person out there, you guys. It’s just that because of who I am, the way I look, you gotta get over it. I’m not changing for nobody!

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni: Get over it. You know?

Amanda: They be trying to say, “Oh you know, Loni hatin’ on you.” I’m like, Oh, y’all don’t understand. Me and Loni see eye to eye. We know what it is.

Loni: All day long! [THEY HIGH-FIVE] This my sister!

Amanda: We know what it is. We know what it is.

Loni: All of these are my sisters! You know, a lot of times when we sit at the table, you know, I’m listening to you all. And I have a resting bitch face. I’m like this.

Jeannie Mai: Gotta hold it!

Amanda: But you’re just listening!

Loni: And I’m listening! You know what I mean? And I’ve tried to work on it, ya’ll, seriously, I have tried to work on my face.

Jeannie: Oh really? Why?

Loni: Because sometimes I do look at myself like, “Dang, why you – ” ‘cause sometimes…

Tamera Mowry-Housley: What am I always telling you, Loni?

Loni: You like –

Tamera/Loni: “Fix your face!”

Amanda: But Loni’s like, “I didn’t know there was nothing to fix, I’m here hanging out!”

Loni: But sometimes I do, cause sometimes, say ok, I’m gonna try to like look sympathetic, I’ll be like… [MAKES A WEIRD FACE]

Jeannie: Oh god!

Amanda: Sometimes people don’t understand that you can speak passionately and not be hostile, you know…

[The Real audience applauds]

Amanda: You can speak directly and not be confrontational and we will have, like – I don’t even call it “disagreements,” we just have “differences in opinion,” and people will think “Oh, they’re going at each other,” and it’s just No, those are just women with independent minds sharing their thoughts, and when Black women share their thoughts as independent women, it shouldn’t be viewed as angry.

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni: And you don’t see it! You haven’t seen this before.

Tamera: I think we have to get to a point too with being ok like you said with disagreeing. Just because I disagree with you on a topic doesn’t mean I “don’t like” you. I don’t understand that – or attacking. I don’t understand that narrative. It’s ok to disagree. Let’s agree…

Tamera/Amanda: To disagree!

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni: I think because they haven’t seen this much diversity in daytime in a long time, I think we are held to a different type of standard.
