Outrage Over Gina Rodriguez Using N-word While Rapping Fugees Song [VIDEO]

*Gina Rodriguez is facing backlash on social media after she posted a video on Instagram Tuesday of herself singing the n-word.

In the clip, the “Jane the Virgin” actress sings along to the Fugees hit “Ready or Not” while getting her makeup done — but folks quickly slammed Gina for dropping the N-bomb during Lauryn Hill’s verse.

Rodriguez, who is Puerto Rican, later deleted the video and apologized on Instagram. Meanwhile, Cardi B is also Puerto Rican, yet the Black community has given her a pass to overuse the N-word, as well as snitch Tekashi69, who is also Puerto Rican. Many Americans are over the faux outrage from Black folks who are coming for Gina’s head over this non-issue.

“Hey, what’s up everybody. I just wanted to reach out and apologize,” she said in her apology video. “I am sorry. I am sorry if I offended anyone by singing along to the Fugees, to a song that I love, that I grew up on. I love Lauryn Hill. And I really am sorry if I offended you.”

Hours later, she posted another apology on Instagram — see the post below.

Despite the apology, she continues to be criticized online

“The fact that she thought this was fine and posted it is LAUGHABLE,” wrote one user.

People also called for her upcoming projects to be canceled, writing, “She’s working on a Disney+ show, we need to get that canceled before it gets started.”

“Gina Rodriguez is an example of the bold anti-blackness of non-black people of colour. Black people keep telling ya’ll not to use our reclaimed slurs, & here you go on your IG story mouthing along to a song saying “n—-“, playing all in our faces. Ugly, racist, & disrespectful,” writer Kinsey Clarke tweeted.

“Gina Rodriguez has mastered the art of being anti-Black then faking victimhood and ignorance when she’s called out,” write Shanita Hubbard said on Twitter.

There are also quite a few Twitter users coming to her defense, including author Kola Boof who wrote: “BLACK MEN ….are the ones who give all these Non-Black people permission to say “nigga”….. Our men are just fragile sell-outs to their hearts. They’re DESPERATE to be friends, brothers & lovers to all these outsiders…anything to be the only Black in the room or fit w/Trophy.”

Media Analyst Mark Dice added, “Maybe black musicians should stop littering their songs with the n-word if snowflakes get their feelings hurt when they hear fans singing along to the lyrics. “

This isn’t the first time Rodriguez has faced backlash for her comments, she previously said Black women were paid more than Latinx– and folks came for her head.

“I get so petrified in this space talking about equal pay, especially when you look at the intersectional aspect of it, right?,” she said at the time. “Where white women get paid more than black women, black women get paid more than Asian women, Asian women get paid more than Latina women, and it’s like a very scary space to step into.”
