After ‘Basketball Wives’ Fans Slam Her for Being Racist, Evelyn Lozada Comes Out as Afro-Latina [VIDEO]

*We previously reported… fans of “Basketball Wives” are calling for star Evelyn Lozada to be booted over her constant racist rants against women she has conflict with on the hit show.

With pressure on series creator and EP Shaunie O’Neil to curb her bestie, Evelyn herself, who has always proudly proclaimed that she’s simply Puerto Rican, is now waving the Afro-Puerto Rican flag to silence chatter that she’s anti-black.

BBW viewers have reportedly launched several petitions on Change.org to demand the termination of the longtime cast member, RollingOut reports. Fans are outraged over how the drama has played out between Lozada and co-stars Jennifer Williams and CeCe Gutierrez.

On one episode, she referred to Gutierrez as “Lee Lee” because she’s Asian. When asked who Lee Lee is, co-star Malaysia Pargo noted it was a girl at a nail shop.

Lozada is also under fire for calling co-star Jackie Christie a cockroach and comparing Ogom “OG” Chijindu to a “monkey.”

Meanwhile, during a recent interview with Justin Sylvester on his E! News show “Just the Sip,” Lozada discussed her heritage, claiming she has “backtracked my roots so I know where I come from.”

“I consider myself Afro-Latina. I have backtracked my roots so I know where I come from,” she said. “I know I have a little bit of everything.”

She then addressed BBW co-stars who have called her out for “trying to be Black.”

“It’s funny because on this season, somebody was like, ‘B—h you think you Black!’ I’ve never had anybody tell me that. I was so offended because I didn’t know what that meant. I’m like, ‘I think I’m Black? I grew up in New York!’ I know where I come from. I’ve done DNA tests just to know. But I want to be able to tap into that more,” she said. “I’m proud to be Puerto Rican and from New York and Afro-Latina and all that good stuff.”

As noted by MadameNoire, Evelyn’s daughter, Shaniece Hairston, has identified as a Black Latina, but Evelyn has always just repped Latina and/or Boriqua.

Her new ethnic proclamation comes as Evelyn is criticized by viewers for her use of the N-word on the show.

Evelyn’s comments start at the 2:38 mark in the clip above.
