Joshua Brown Feared for His Life During Amber Guyger Trail, Fled State to Avoid Testifying

Joshua Brown

*Joshua Brown, the Dallas man who was gunned down three days after testify against killer cop Amber Guyger attempted to evade the courtroom drama by fleeing the state out of fear for his life.

Last week, a Dallas County jury sentenced Guyger to 10 years in prison after convicting her of murdering her unarmed neighbor Botham Jean in his apartment last year.

Lee Merritt, who represents the Jean family, said Brown (a key witness in the case) was concerned that testifying would put his life at risk. At one point during the trail, Judge Mammy Tammy shaded the young man by noting her shock that he even showed up to testify (see the disturbing clip below).

Many on social media have been quick to point out how the judge seemed to lack compassion for the brotha but showered the white female killer with love and Bible verses to help her cope with prison life and  help her bounceback after she serves a light sentence.

Brown previously survived a shooting in November 2018 and the suspect remained at large. The Jean family has filed a civil case against the city of Dallas for the murder of Botham, and Joshua would have been one of their first witnesses.

“Josh was concerned that these people still meant him harm so when he was subpoenaed to testify against Amber Guyger he was conflicted,” Merritt wrote on Facebook. “He wanted to do the right thing.”

He said prosecutors pressured Brown, saying his testimony would help secure a conviction in Jean’s murder, New York Post reports

“He, in turn, told prosecutors and the Court about the danger he felt was associated with him testifying in a public trial,” Merritt wrote. Brown ultimately decided that “it was just too dangerous.” So he fled Texas for California, but prosecutors threatened to issue a warrant for his arrest if he didn’t appear in court.

“So he got on a plane and came straight from the airport to the courthouse,” Merritt said.

Once he arrived, Brown met with Judge Mammy Tammy in her chambers and expressed his concerns, but he was still forced to taking the stand.

Merritt wants to know why measures weren’t taken to protect Brown during his testimony.

“They took steps to cut off cameras and instruct media not to report on an undercover cop that testified in Guyger’s trial,” Merritt said. “Why weren’t the same measures taken to protect Joshua Brown?”

Merritt added: “Nothing he testified to couldn’t have been brought in by other witnesses. It wasn’t worth his life,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, three people have been arrested in connection with Brown’s death. According to the Dallas PD, Jacquerious Mitchell, 20, Michael Mitchell, 32, and Thaddeous Green, 22, traveled from Alexandria, Louisiana, to purchase marijuana from Brown. But the alleged drug deal went south, shots were fired and Brown was left for dead.

We received numerous tips that led us to execute a search warrant for Mr. Brown’s apartment. We confiscated 12 lbs. of marijuana, 149 grams of THC cartridges and $4,157 in cash,” the Dallas PD wrote on Twitter.

However, many on social media are convinced the white supremacists who have infiltrated the precinct are responsible for Brown’s death, and folks are flooding DPD’s Twitter timeline to slam the fantastical narrative that’s being pushed.

In response to the criticism, DPD followed up with another tweet, saying: “The rumors shared by community leaders that Mr. Brown’s death was related to the Amber Guyger trial and that DPD was responsible are false. We encourage those leaders to be mindful because their words may jeapordize the integrity of the city of Dallas and DPD.”

One twitter user responded to the post by noting: “Can’t hurt the integrity of a police department that produced a cop who killed someone because she forgot where she lives. That would be bad!”
