*The New Orleans man who fatally shot Toya Wright‘s two brothers three years ago has been convicted on two counts of second-degree murder family and sentenced to life in prison.

Antoine Edwards, 34, was given the mandatory life sentence on Monday (September 30), after a New Orleans jury found him guilty following two hours of deliberation that capped a three-day trial, according to Nola.com

Ryan and Joshua Johnson — 24 and 31, respectively — were fatally shot in New Orleans while sitting in a car on July 31, 2016. An investigation into the double homicide led authorities to Edwards, who was identified by witnesses who saw him fleeing the scene after the shooting. One woman also claimed she heard him confessing to the crime.

The brothers were gunned down after visiting Edwards to purchase marijuana. Prosecutors allege Edwards  became enraged because they used the front door of his “trap house.”

“Two lives are lost over a door and some weed,” Assistant District Attorney Ashley Spears said, according to Nola.com. “This man got upset because these two men went to the front of the trap house instead of the back, and he shoots them.”

Toya previously opened up to PEOPLE about losing her brothers to gang violence.

“It was the worst news ever. Murders happen every day and this is another dark night in New Orleans. You hear about stories like this all the time, but it doesn’t really hit you until you get that call. It hits so close to home,” she said.

“I got a call from my sister-in-law and she was like, ‘Your brothers just got shot,’” Wright recalled, who was hosting a party in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the time. “The music was loud and I’m [thinking], this can’t be real.”

Wright is best known as being the ex-wife to rapper Lil Wayne. In 2011, she married Mickey “Memphitz” Wright in Atlanta, but four years later they called it quits.
