*Ava DuVernay has inked a deal with WarnerMedia to helm a new project for its upcoming streaming service.
The acclaimed director will direct and produce the pilot for the adaptation of DC Comics’ “DMZ,” described a futuristic drama set in an American civil war..

“DMZ” chronicles the journey of a female medic who saves lives while desperately searching for her lost son. She has to contend with the gangs, militias, demagogues and warlords that control the lawless no man’s land.
Filming on pilot is set to begin in early 2020

“DMZ is a special project to me as it marks a key collaboration with my company ARRAY Filmworks, the excellent team at Warner Bros TV and the dynamo Roberto Patino,” DuVernay told said in a statement. “We’ve all worked diligently on this material and I’ve witnessed Roberto in action. He’s insanely talented and cares about telling stories with maximum impact and imagination. I’m eager to share this one with DC fans.”
The pilot is produced by DuVernay’s Array Filmworks, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
DuVernay, meanwhile, is also set to direct a big-screen adaptation of Jack Kirby’s “New Gods.”
Ava became the first Black American woman to direct a film with a budget of more than $100 million with “A Wrinkle in Time,” which earned $33 million at the box office in its opening weekend.
