*This past weekend (09-21-19), EURweb was at the Cicada Restaurant & Club in downtown Los Angeles where actress, model and businesswoman LisaRaye McCoy added another title to her diverse career. You can now refer to her as: Queen Mother of Ghana.
Queen Mothers are important leaders and women of power in Africa that are selected by the royal family of each town and village. They play a vital role in local government and wield a lot of social power and influence.
EURweb was able to speak to McCoy and several others who were part of the decision to appoint her before the ceremony. While being a Queen Mother will be a first for her, she is not new to political responsibilities as she is also the former First Lady of Turks and Caicos from her previous marriage with Michael Misick who was the countries first Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Many members who were part of the decision spoke about how McCoy’s service in society played a role in her being selected to hold this crown. Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has spoken about how 2019 is about his desire to unite Africans on the continent with many people in the diaspora, calling 2019 “The Year of the Return.”
The decision to appoint McCoy Queen Mother appears to coincide with that as many spoke about the desire to connect African-American’s back to their roots.
