The longtime New Jersey resident has partnered with Colorado cannabis dispensary Lightshade to submit an application for a medicinal marijuana dispensary license in Essex County, according to

“Opening a medicinal cannabis dispensary is something I’ve been passionate about for a long time,” Marley told Benzinga. “It’s wonderful to put cannabis forward on a positive stage and see patients benefit from its many uses. I’m happy to see New Jersey take part in this movement and watch it progress further.”

If their license is approved, Rohan intends to help with the dispensary’s marketing and hiring, as well as introduce his own medicinal strain of cannabis in New Jersey with Lightshade.

Marley and Lightshade are members of a venture partnership with retired OB-GYN Anthony Caggiano, Erik Caggiano, a cannabis manufacturing facilities manager, and Montclair-based labor and employment attorney John Zidziunas, reported.

“I am pleased with New Jersey’s progress and recognition of marijuana as an alternative treatment to heroin and answer to New Jersey’s opioid crisis,” Caggiano said. “More in-depth studies need to be conducted to give the public the information they need to feel confident about cannabis’ positive effects.”

“It’s about awakening ourselves to a plant that has tremendous value, and so many positive things it can do,” Marley recently told The Daily Beast when asked about the benefits of marijuana.

“In Jamaica, my family has long been advocating about the medicinal benefits of marijuana and its many pathways to treatment well before its medical and recreational legalization into the U.S.,” he said in a press release.

In related news, Rohan has been tapped to co-host the 2019 Cannabis Business Awards in Miami on Oct. 27.
