Faith-Based Producer Holly Carter Gets Real In New Interview

*We got to catch up with the trailblazing Executive Producer Holly Carter and she told us all about her new projects and past projects while being refreshingly honest.

Holly Carter is head of Relevé Entertainment LLC, a multi-platform production and talent partnership boutique that curates content across media and has managed award-winning multi-platinum entertainers including Usher, Kirk Franklin, Mary-Mary and Michelle Williams.

Carter began her twenty-five-year career in television casting for shows including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Roc, and Martin. Ultimately expanding into brand development and content creation. Under her company umbrella, Carter created Oxygen’s breakout franchise Preachers Of (LA, Detroit, Atlanta), OWN’s Chad Loves Michelle and BET’s music competition show The Next Big Thing.

Of course, I had to ask about the late great Nipsey Hussle, seeing if she’s talked to the family since the tragedy? “No I haven’t spoken to the family but Lauren London is apart of the BET family so I know I’ll see her.” Carter goes on “Pretty Yellow got to work with him and said he was so motivated, focused and determined. She said she learned so much from working with him.”

Leading me to my next question as to what advice would she have for women, especially black women who are coming climbing the entertainment industry?

“Find mentors or others who are doing exactly what you want to do and network, get out and socialize also it’s all about timing.” Cater also mentions timing when it comes to talking about pushing faith-based content in the very liberal entertainment industry.” It’s all about timing, you have to have the right balance and not be too preachy.” Which I feel most would agree.

Even though Holly Carter is stepping in the right path and breaking down barriers she has learned from some challenging moments like with the Chad Loves Michelle Show.

“I wish I would’ve had sat down with Michelle and said I don’t think this is the best time to really do this show. We should have canceled it.” She’s still closely in touch with the Destiny’s Child member but that was one she had confessed she wished she had thought out a little more.

But that never stopped the Revival Executive Producer from taking on another project that we were all curious about, Love & Listings featuring infamous producer, Suge Knight’s son Jacob Knight.

“The moment he (Suge Knight) was talking to Jacob, was a moment that the audience could see him (Suge Knight) be truly vulnerable and that’s a part of him we don’t see often. That was actually the first time they had spoken in three years too.”

I definitely couldn’t miss out on asking when would the Merge Summit be returning in full effect and if they already have a lineup started for it?

“It’ll be back next year 2020, at the end of August. We had the activation for it at Essence Fest this year and we won’t start getting the lineup ready until October of this year.” I felt the excitement even for myself.

We concluded the interview on how she picks the projects she wants to be apart of. Carter explains that she has to get that gut feeling, so she’s excited to be presenting her new projects this coming year such as The Clark Sisters: The First Ladies of Gospel, My Father’s Daughter: The Victoria Gotti Biopic and the live-action gospel feature film Music To My Ears.
