Barack and Michelle Obama Release Summer Playlist Featuring ‘Some New, Some Old’

Barack Obama, Michelle Obama

*On Saturday, Barack Obama shared a list of 44 songs that he and former First Lady Michelle Obama have had on repeat all summer.

The playlist opens with “Too Good” by Drake ft. Rhianna, and includes songs such as “Old Town Road,” and a wide-range of artists like Beyoncé, Lauryn Hill, John Legend, Frank Sinatra, The Rolling Stones, Ella Fitzgerald, and Van Morrison. Surprisingly, Aretha Franklin is not on the list.

“With summer winding down, here’s a sampling of what Michelle and I have been listening to — some new, some old, some fast, some slow,” Obama wrote on Instagram. “Hope you enjoy.”

Some folks were not feeling the selected tracks and noted their hate of the Obamas living their best (Black) life, as one Twitter user commented: “Struggling to remain relevant, huh?”

Another said: “Omg you are so irrelevant.”

A third responded: “So bad, all of them,” in reference to the playlist.

As noted by Teen Vogue, the Obamas shared a similar list last holiday season, which featured their end-of-season roundup of books, movies, and songs.

“It gives me a moment to pause and reflect on the year through the books, movies, and music that I found most thought-provoking, inspiring, or just plain loved,” Barack said of the list in December 2018. “It also gives me a chance to highlight talented authors, artists, and storytellers – some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before.”
