*Meanwhile in Ojai, California, nestled in Ventura County far away from the hustle of city life, a gathering of creative artists occurred and was granted much support by the people who love them.

The 2019 Ojai Playwrights Conference was held August 4th through 11th just 82 miles outside of Los Angeles.  The festival is now in its 22nd year and it is embraced by the entire town of Ojai.

Residents not only attended sold-out performances of original play readings, they also hosted and provided hospitality to the playwrights and staff of this exclusive literary event.

This year among the selected staged readings were Welcome to Matteson! by Inda Craig-Galván and Tambo and Bones, written by Dave Harris.

Welcome to Matteson! was directed by Logan Vaughn and Tambo and Bones was directed by Taylor Reynolds. Both productions are still in development and are under the pristine guidance of Artistic Director and Producer Robert Egan, noted dramaturge Christopher Breyer and an elite team of creative architects.

Make no mistake, theatergoers can anticipate an enjoyable, riveting and memorable experience from any play that has been ushered through the Ojai Playwrights pipeline.

The Ojai Playwrights Conference is multi-cultural and multi-dimensional and explores topics ranging from yesterday’s typical version of Americana to today’s eclectic, bold, textured and complex interpretations of race, class, gender, capitalism and the constant quest for the meaning of life.

For writers who are lucky enough to be chosen for the Ojai Playwrights Conference, it is the ultimate artistic Bootcamp and the rewards could indeed be a pathway to regional theatre, off-Broadway or all the way to Broadway.

Given the track record of the Ojai Playwrights Conference Board of Directors and Staff, this is a writer’s dream, and the Ojai community boasts a sneak peek every year of classics in the making.

The Electronic Urban Report at EURweb had the great fortune of witnessing works by Ms. Craig-Galván and Mr. Harris, however, we also congratulate playwrights Kimberly Belflower, Sam Chanse, Kate Cortesi, Kimber Lee, James Morrison, Christopher Gabriel Nún͂ez, Sandra Tsing Loh, Thandiwe Mawungwa and Liliana Padilla.
