*As we previously reported, Grammy-winning songwriter Bryan Michael Cox claimed JAY-Z personally phoned Jermaine Dupri less than a year ago and advised him to turn down a similar deal to the one he recently inked with the NFL.

“I’m not saying that it can’t turn into some good shit,” Cox said of the partnership. “We’re also talking about a guy who single-handedly picked up the phone and called Jermaine to tell him not to do it…. When we all had that meeting with the NFL, all that sh*t was part of the same sh*t.

Dupri caught a lot of heat from Colin Kaepernick supporters when he hosted a series of concerts in Atlanta leading up the Super Bowl this year.

“I’m not going to condemn it or be like ‘That s**t’s wack.’ For me, I want to look at it intelligently because I know a lot of what was happening before and how we were engaged last year as a community,” Cox continued. “At the end of the day, [Jermaine] took a beating for doing the same s**t. And, I guarantee you they didn’t pay him as much as they are about to pay [Jay].”

On Monday (Aug. 19), DJ Funk Flex said that he spoke with Dupri and verified Cox’s revelation with the So So Def CEO.

“I just got off the phone with Jermaine Dupri,” Flex shared in an Instagram post. “He confirmed that when he was working with the NFL last year he did get a call from Jay-Z asking him…’How deep are you in with the NFL?’ expressing …’That might not be a good idea.’”

In JAY-Z’s Roc Nation x NFL partnership, the rapper will serve as the league’s “live music entertainment strategist” and social justice advocate via a new $89 million initiative. TMZ reported that JAY’s partnership will also make him the part-owner of an unnamed franchise. But sources close to the league told CBS Sports that there are “no plans in place” for Jigga to become an owner, Complex reports. The outlet writes that “Roc Nation and the NFL are trying to find out who leaked the false information in the first place.”
