Gayle, Oprah Put Their Knowledge of Slang to the Test – Are They Hip to ‘JOMO’ & ‘Thirst Trap?’ (WATCH)

*Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King share something with a lot of people and black folk in particular. That’s is how to stay on top of the slang game as you age.

Actually, between the two, Gayle is more on top of things … more in touch with the streets than O is. A lot.

We found this out in the latest episode of OprahMag.com’s ongoing video series, The OG Chronicles. Gayle and Oprah were asked to define certain terms and phrases used by millennials and Gen Zers such as “snack” and “secure the bag” and use them in a sentence.

“Are we no longer saying turnt? Like, do you get turnt up? Are we done with that?” Gayle joked at the start of the clip, but she was feeling confident going into the challenge. Oprah, didn’t.

“I’m thinking we know it pretty well. What do you think?” Gayle, 64, asked Oprah, who made it clear she could give a hoot either way.

“I don’t think I do. And I don’t care if I don’t, either. You can’t slang shame me,” was Lady O’s response.

We won’t go through all of them, but the first word they tried was “lit,” and they immediately knew it meant “great” and “really fun.” Here’s Oprah, 65, using it in a sentence: “We went to the party and it was lit.”

And yes, they may be “old,” but they also both knew that throwing “shade” means to diss somebody, but they were stumped when they were asked to define a “snack.”

“My favorite snack was barbecue potato chips,” Gayle hilariously said, while Oprah added: “And mine is popcorn with truffles.”

After they learned the slang word means someone who looks good, Oprah couldn’t help but dish about the snack she had lunch with, but unfortunately, she didn’t name any names.

Anyway, check out the video above for more hilarity from these two who have been hangin’ steady as friends for the past 43 years.
